Classes and Workshops

Upcoming Classes:

Micro I: Less Is More (February 1 -28, 2021)

This four-week class will be limited to twelve participants in order to guarantee an experience that is both fun and productive.

Here’s how it will go down: During the first two weeks of class, you’ll generate micros (fiction or nonfiction, fewer than 300 words) in response to each of six prompts. Each prompt will be preceded by a brief piece of (published) prose and a short discussion of the aspects of craft — characterization, setting, point of view, and structure – that are key to an effective piece of short prose.

During Weeks Three and Four, you’ll revise and share two of your prompts in an informal workshop that’s designed to be both constructive and helpful.

Course fee: $110

Class is full. Contact me if you want to be placed on the waiting list.

Micro II: Much More Than Less (March 8 – 28, 2021)

Three weeks of generative prompts focusing on the craft of writing micro as well as writing for specific markets.

Course fee: $90

“Now We’re Getting Somewhere”: A Poetry Boot Camp (April 5 – April 25, 2021)

Join us for this generative three-week workshop inspired by poems from Kim Addonizio’s new book Now We’re Getting Somewhere (Norton 2021).

How it works: You’ll respond to three prompts per week as well as participate in weekly informal discussions based on selected poems from the book. All work is asynchronous except for a Zoom reading and Q&A with Kim (date and time TBA).

To buy the book (required), please visit your local indie bookstore or order online when it releases in March.

Course fee: $100

Note: The April class is full but I’m taking names for the wait list in case of cancellations. Waitlisted students will get first priority for spots in the next class (TBA).

How to Enroll

To reserve your spot in a workshop, please e-mail me at sfreligh@gmail.com with the name of the workshop in your subject line and I’ll respond with your official course confirmation. Information about payment will go out a month before the official class start.

I’m also happy to answer any and all questions you may have.

Thanks in advance. Look forward to working with you in 2021!
